Program Overview
The Certificate of Competency (CCT) in Welding: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) prepares students for aerospace industry code certification testing in the gas tungsten arc welding process in carbon steel and stainless-steel (ferrous metals) and aluminum (non-ferrous). An AAS in Welding as well as certificates in the following areas of specialization are also available: Welding: Gas Metal / Flux Cored Arc Welding (GMAW)/(FCAW), Welding: Shielded Metal Arc welding (SMAW) Plate, Welding: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Pipe, and Welding: Shielded Metal Arc welding (SMAW) Plate and Pipe.
Program Objectives
TIG Welding Techniques: Participants will master the techniques of Tungsten Inert Gas welding, commonly known as GTAW. This includes precise control of the welding arc and the deposition of filler metal.
Metal Joining and Fusion: The program emphasizes the principles of metal joining and fusion, teaching participants how to create strong, durable welds on various materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys.
Blueprint Reading: Participants will learn to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, a crucial skill for understanding welding specifications and ensuring accuracy in the welding process.
Welding Safety Practices: Emphasis is placed on safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, safe handling of welding equipment, and awareness of potential hazards in the welding environment.
Material Selection and Preparation: Participants will gain knowledge in selecting appropriate welding materials and preparing them for the welding process, ensuring compatibility and quality in the finished welds.
Quality Control and Inspection: The program covers quality control measures and inspection techniques, teaching participants how to assess the integrity of welds and meet industry standards.
