Program Description
In the BS in health education and health promotion program, students learn how to improve health outcomes and prevent chronic and infectious disease. They develop understanding in how to help communities advocate for healthier environments and champion health equity. Students learn to plan, implement, manage and evaluate health promotion programs.
Students can specialize their knowledge in areas like diabetes prevention, sexual health, climate and health, HIV and substance abuse prevention, emergency preparedness, social media and health, body image and wellness, school health and violence prevention.
Once students graduate, they are eligible to sit for the certified health education specialist exam through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (https://www.nchec.org/). This is a globally recognized credential for health professionals. The health education and health promotion program rigorously prepares students for the CHES exam.
Graduates become catalysts for improving community and individual well-being through health education and promotion.
